The Prose Poetry Network was founded in the summer of 2025, following the symposium “Journée d’étude sur le poème en prose: Perspectives on the Prose Poem,” organized by Clíona Ní Ríordáin and Carle Bonafous-Murat in March of that year. Held at the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris, under the aegis of the Sorbonne Nouvelle and the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies at the University of Notre Dame, the gathering brought together scholars from across Europe and North America to explore the present state of the prose poem, with a particular focus on Ireland.
We aim to provide an online resource for scholars of the prose poem worldwide—including recordings of the speakers’ talks at our annual conference, a bibliography section linking to the published scholarship of network members, and a shared Google Doc for translations of prose poems, beginning with Charles Baudelaire’s “Le Mauvais Vitrier.”
We hope to be an interactive network though this website, so that anyone interested in adding their own translation of “Le Mauvais Vitrier” (or other prose poems) can easily access the archive and upload their work, and post comments and reactions to others’ works using features such as emoji reactions or posting replies to the comments above so as to facilitate conversations across cultures and disciplines.
